I started working in the school room this week. I took some BEFORE pictures prior to getting started. The transformation is going to be amazing I’m sure!
While I was working this afternoon Luci came to join me where I was filing school papers and she insisted on a sheet of paper and a pencil. I really wanted her to go play so I could focus on the task at hand, but she really wanted to just be in the same room with me, so I conceded and gave her the paper and pencil and went back to work. The next thing I know she is “writing” a story...every now and then she’d ask her self “and then what happened?” much like I ask Ben when he is narrating to me. I should have stopped what I was doing right then and wrote her story down for her, but with the dining table littered with papers and dinner time just around the corner, I didn’t stop working. It was very cute though, and she had 4 pages of “writing” when she was done. She can tell you what she wrote--but it’s a magical story that changes each time she tells it apparently. At first it was about a “Lovely princess” and then it was about a “beautiful mermaid” and later it had transformed to something else. I did notice that her use of adjectives and adverbs was incredible! Tomorrow we might just take some time to actually get some of these stories written down. I was pretty impressed with her!
Ben is having a good week. He is gaining weight! He got on the scales today and is up to 50 lbs now, that’s a 5 pound gain since Christmas and is GREAT! It took me by surprise when I realized too that he hasn’t been asking to play video games all the time anymore. Video games were one of his biggest triggers for behavior problems and he was constantly wanting to play and then melting in frustration when it didn’t go like he wanted or when he was told he couldn’t play. But for a few weeks now he has had zero interest in playing any of the video games. He plays outside a lot and if its rainy he finds things indoors to play with. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the medication or not...but I am grateful in any case.
Gavin is going to be playing guitar at a “Homeschool Recognition” night later this week. He has decided to play “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands”. He is doing really well with the guitar and his instructor is extremely pleased with his progress. I am so proud that he enjoys this and feels confident enough to “perform”. He’s always been rather shy and prone to stage fright, but he is very excited about playing, and says he isn’t one bit nervous. When I asked him why he wasn’t nervous he said “It’s guitar mom! I KNOW how to play it!” We will be sure to get pictures!
Here’s my version of Out of the Mouth of Babes
Funny Question of the Week (asked by Gavin): “If Hillary Clinton is elected President what will we call her husband? The First Man?”
Funny Statement of the Month (stated by Ben at the dinner table when I placed a brand new roll of paper towels in the dinner table): “That’s a FAT roll of paper towels! No offense Paw Paw!” And if that weren’t funny enough, he followed it up about 3 minutes later with, “What’s ‘no offense’ mean?”
Funny by Luci (she’s developed an intense curiosity about babies, mommies, and where babies come from and she likes to pretend she has a baby growing in her own tummy--much to her daddy’s dismay): When I told her she needed wash her hands after eating dinner she replied, “Wait, I have to finish my noodles and drink my milk so my baby will have something to play with in my tummy.”
OH MY!
