Summer's Here

It's been a busy week in our household over the past week. Our church held its VBS last week and the entire family was involved in some form or fashion. Did you know VBS was a lot like work? If you've worked in a VBS or directed a VBS then you know! Our VBS was held outdoors during a week of record breaking high temperatures, so we cam home each day sweaty & exhausted ...but blessed beyond measure. It was so wonderful to see all of those precious children growing in their faith and learning more about Jesus.

We celebrated a special birthday this weekend. Brian turned another year older so we celebrated with dinner at Mama Hamil's in Madison with friends. And then on Sunday Luci and I made him some special triple-chocolate brownies which we served with vanilla ice cream.

Triple Chocolate Brownies

1 large dark chocolate brownie mix
(get the kind that fits in a 13 by 9 pan, although you will still use an 8 by 8)
2 large Symphony milk chocolate bars
1 tub of chocolate frosting

Prepare brownie mix according to package instructions. In a prepared 8 by 8 pan spread out half of the brownie batter. Place the two chocolate bars side by side on the batter and then spread the remaining brownie batter on top of the chocolate bars. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until done.

Cool, and then frost with chocolate frosting. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Swoon.

As I mentioned before, when I talked about VBS, it's been hot here. It's definitely summer here in central Mississippi, although the calendar still says it's spring. Brian picked up a water sprinkler for the kids and they enjoyed getting wet with the cool water.

We aren't technically finished with our school work yet, but with a week of VBS behind us, and two kids off to camp this week and next, we aren't making much headway in finishing. The boys have just a few lessons left in their math books, about two weeks left in our Sonlight Cores, and a couple of chapters in their science books. I think once we get camp behind us we can knock the rest of this out over summer by just doing some light school days a couple of times a week.

Hope your enjoying your summer so far!
