Things are going well! The kids have gotten better at entertaining themselves on their own instead of needing me all the time to provide some sort of entertainment for them. They've rediscovered long forgotten toys and the house looks like it did in the days when they were smaller...toys everywhere!
Gavin was gone for a few days to church camp in Dayton, TN. While he was gone I took Ben and Luci to the Children's Museum in Jackson. This was our first visit, even though the museum has been open over a year now. We had a ball and really weren't ready to leave when they made the announcement that they would be closing soon. They really enjoyed them selves and it was a fun way to spend the day. I would love to have a family membership to the Children's Museum, as I can see that it would be a great place to go when we need a break from our regular home school days.
Also while Gavin was gone, I took Ben and Luci to the theater to see Madagascar 3. If your a fan of the first to Madagascar movies, then you'll probably enjoy this one as well. It's the same voices, lots of comedy, and a pretty good message of teamwork, loyalty, and overcoming fears :)
Today Ben and Luci are with our children's pastor doing what she calls "Movies & Missions." This is a weekly thing she is doing with the kids. They gathered this morning to work on cards for the nursing home, then they were heading to see a $1 movie before going to visit and sing songs for the folks at the nursing home.
We are just 17 days from finishing our month of no TV and 7 of those will be spent on vacation :) Finishing this up should be a breeze!

Sounds great! Thought about extending it???
ReplyDeleteWell, for sure next week will be a breeze since we'll be camping with no TV. LOL I know we'll have plenty of things to keep us busy all week. Hope the weather co-operates for us.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 1/2 way mark of your experiment. When we were without power after Hurricane Ivan it was weird and frustrating to not have access to the news since we knew there was so much to KNOW about in our community. We did have the newspaper almost immediately after the storm since they got it printed in Birmingham and trucked it to Pensacola. And they filled it from front to back with pictures of the devastation and mayhem. Not a pretty sight, but one we were curious to see, just the same. Eventually, we got used to it, but man OH man, when that power came back on, one of the first things we did...NO, it was not turn on the TV.....was look longingly at the ice maker for the first sign of ice!! I think I stood with the door open just staring at the beautiful coldness within! So having an extended power outage helped us get our priorities straight about what's important.....and yep, having the TV/cable/internet back was nice, but not nearly as nice as having a refrigerator that was good for something besides being a place for magnets to hang!!
Congrats again on your TV break....by choice. :)
Love you,
Grammy
